Fishing Nets – Ghana

Lake Volta is the largest man-made lake in the world. The shoreline is dotted with remote fishing villages that can only be reached by water. The youngest child on this boat is 7; the oldest is 15. It is the end of the day. They have been working since 4:00 a.m. They are slaves. It is estimated that there are an estimated 20,000 children enslaved on Lake Volta. The nets can weigh as much as 1,000 pounds when they are full. Every kid on the lake knows of another child who died in the nets.
