200 Feet Below

West Africa

Two hundred feet beneath the earth, a gold miner works in near-total darkness, guided by the narrow beam of a headlamp. The air is thick, unventilated and heavy with dust. In these illegal mines, workers can remain underground for days at a time, exposed to collapsing shafts, suffocating heat and dangerous conditions. His face emerges from the darkness, revealing the human cost of the gold extracted far below the surface.
