I return to this image often and find that it changes with me. The woman’s movement, the breeze through her hair, the weathered gold wall behind her. At different times I see freedom, joy, history, resilience. Perhaps that is what I love most about a photograph. It remains still, while we do not. We return with different eyes, shaped by all that has happened since we last looked.
