Modern Slavery

Powder

West Africa

Once the gold-bearing rock reaches the surface, it is pounded into powder and washed in search of traces of gold. Dust coats the workers' hands and fills the air they breathe. Children are put to work throughout this process, exposed to dangerous conditions for a commodity whose value is realized far from the places where they labor.
