Months after I met and photographed her in the brothel, I learned that her body had been found in a gutter. There was no investigation into her death. In life, her body generated income for others. In death, there seemed to be little interest in what had happened to her. Her story is a stark reminder of what exploitation can take away: not only freedom, but the recognition that every life has value.
